Power surge protectors include single-phase lightning protection boxes, three-phase lightning protection boxes , single-phase lightning protection modules, three-box lightning protection modules, and lightning protection sockets. Power surge protectors are widely used in various power distribution stations, power distribution rooms, power distribution cabinets, AC/DC power distribution panels, switch boxes, and other equipment that are important and vulnerable to lightning strikes.

The function of the power lightning protector is to discharge the surge current generated by the lightning strike and the induction on the release circuit of the very short time (nanosecond level) to the earth, thereby protecting the equipment on the line.

The lightning protection device is divided into switch-type lightning arrester and pressure-limiting arrester according to its working principle. Switching surge protectors are generally used in the lightning protection of power systems in Zone 0 to Zone 1. Limiting voltage surge arresters are generally used in the lightning protection of LPZ1 and subsequent lightning protection zones.

The lightning arrester is connected to the power line in parallel and connected to the grounding system. Under normal circumstances, the lightning protector is considered to be in the open circuit state. When the intensity of the lightning current (surge) exceeds the operating standard of the lightning arrester, the lightning protector rapidly responds to ground conduction and discharges the lightning current. After the lightning current is discharged or the surge disappears, the lightning arrester quickly restores the ground breaking state.

As the switch type SPD is mainly composed of discharge gaps, gas discharge tubes, thyristors, and triacs, its conduction to ground is “open and close”, once the lightning current intensity exceeds the switch type lightning protection. Actuator standards, lightning protection device that is the maximum instantaneous discharge of lightning current. The switch-type lightning arrester has the advantage of strong bleed-off capability, and can divert 10/350μs simulated lightning surge current.

Pressure limiting surge arresters are mainly composed of varistors and suppression diodes. The operating characteristics of the surge arrester with limited pressure is that its ability to discharge the lightning current to the ground gradually increases with the increase of the lightning current intensity. The limited-voltage surge arrester has the characteristics of fast response, and can reduce the residual voltage on the power grid to a great extent, and can ease the simulated lightning impulse current of 8/20μs.
