On March 7, the Science and Technology Department of Sichuan Province announced that in 2012, the Sichuan Cotton Crops Team made significant progress by collecting over 600 ramie germplasm resources. Moreover, its protein content exceeded 20%, far surpassing that of corn and forage crops. The introduction of “Chuan Fei No. 1” filled a critical gap in China’s feed industry, addressing the growing demand for high-quality feed raw materials and supporting the sustainable development of the animal husbandry sector. In addition, the company also introduced another innovative variety called “Chuanxi 13,” which was specifically developed to meet the needs of processing enterprises. This variety not only met the requirement for hemp fiber content of at least 2,300 kg per mu but also increased production by more than 5%. Its excellent defoliation characteristics and easy skin separation made it highly favored by processing companies. In 2012, this variety was planted across 420,000 mu in the southwestern region, producing an additional 11 million kilograms of raw hemp and generating an added value of 66 million yuan. These achievements highlight the growing importance of ramie in both agriculture and industrial applications, offering promising opportunities for future growth.
