Abstract On July 23, the Zhengzhou Municipal Bureau of Statistics released the latest data showing that in the first half of the year, the added value of industrial enterprises above designated size in Zhengzhou reached 134.259 billion yuan. The city ranked second among the six central provinces in terms of total output, with a year-on-year growth of 10.8%. Notably, the new materials industry has emerged as a key driver of industrial expansion in the region.
According to the report, the new materials sector experienced robust growth, with an industrial added value of 19 billion yuan, reflecting a 11.7% increase compared to the same period last year. This contributed 17.42% to the city’s overall industrial growth, pushing it up by 1.88 percentage points. The rapid development of this sector highlights its growing importance in Zhengzhou's economic strategy.

Zhengzhou is actively working to build a strong new materials industry cluster, aiming to develop strategic emerging industries that support a unique and sustainable economy. A recent example is the BOPP film project launched in the Zhengzhou Airport Economic Comprehensive Experimental Zone. This project plans to introduce four sets of multi-layer co-extruded BOPP film production lines from Brno, Germany, with an annual capacity of 160,000 tons. Once completed, it is expected to set a benchmark in the field of flexible plastic packaging.

In addition, the construction of the Zhengzhou New Materials Industrial Park, focusing on ultra-hard materials, high-performance ceramics, functional refractories, and fine chemical materials, is progressing rapidly. This year, the park has set ambitious targets under the “three billions” plan: attracting 10 billion yuan in new investments, completing 10 billion yuan in fixed asset investment, and advancing projects signed in 2012 that were worth 10 billion yuan. To achieve these goals, the park plans to invest 11.5 billion yuan in 46 industrial projects and seven infrastructure developments this year. Current efforts are focused on accelerating project promotions and securing further investment.

With these initiatives, Zhengzhou is positioning itself as a leading hub for new materials innovation, driving both economic growth and technological advancement in the region. The city's commitment to developing advanced industries reflects a long-term vision aimed at strengthening its competitive edge in the national and global markets.
