Abstract On July 23, the Zhengzhou Municipal Bureau of Statistics released the latest data showing that in the first half of the year, the added value of industrial enterprises above designated size in Zhengzhou reached 134.259 billion yuan. The city ranked second among the six central provinces in total output, with a growth rate of 10.8%. Notably, the new materials industry has emerged as a key driver of industrial expansion in the region.
The data highlights the rapid growth of the new materials sector in Zhengzhou, which generated an industrial added value of 19 billion yuan during the period, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 11.7%. This sector contributed 17.42% to the city's overall industrial growth, driving it by 1.88 percentage points. The momentum is clearly building, and the industry is becoming a vital pillar for future development.
In line with its strategic vision, Zhengzhou is actively developing a new materials industry cluster focused on high-tech and emerging sectors. Recently, a BOPP film project was launched in the Zhengzhou Airport Economic Comprehensive Experimental Zone. The project plans to introduce four advanced BOPP multi-layer co-extruded film production lines from Brno, Germany, with an annual capacity of 160,000 tons. This initiative is expected to set a benchmark in the field of plastic flexible packaging and boost the city’s manufacturing capabilities.
Additionally, construction of the Zhengzhou New Materials Industrial Park is progressing rapidly. The park focuses on ultra-hard materials, high-performance ceramics, functional refractories, and fine chemical materials. In 2024, the park has set ambitious targets under the “three billions” plan: to realize a 10 billion yuan investment project initiated in 2012, attract another 10 billion yuan in new investments, and complete 10 billion yuan in fixed asset investments. To achieve this, the park has planned to invest 11.5 billion yuan across 46 industrial projects and 7 infrastructure projects this year. Current efforts are underway to promote these projects and attract further investment.
With continued government support and strong private sector participation, the new materials industry in Zhengzhou is well-positioned for sustained growth. As the city continues to develop its industrial base, it is clear that innovation and strategic planning will play a crucial role in maintaining its competitive edge in the national and global markets.
