ventilator

【Definition】

A ventilator, also known as a ventilation fan, is an air conditioning appliance that uses a motor to rotate fan blades and facilitate the exchange of indoor and outdoor air. Its main purpose is to remove stale or polluted air from a room while regulating temperature, humidity, and overall comfort. Ventilators are commonly used in both residential and commercial settings to improve air quality and create a healthier living environment.

【History of Development】

The concept of ventilation fans first emerged in Japan in 1958, where early models were limited to one-directional airflow, often referred to as exhaust fans. In 1964, a new type called shutter-type ventilation fans was introduced. China began producing similar models in the 1970s, with Guangdong’s Jiangmen City launching its first 200mm open exhaust fan in 1974. By 1976, Shenyang started manufacturing 300mm metal shutter-type exhaust fans, and by 1979, they had developed two-way shutter-type ventilation fans, marking significant progress in the industry.

【Working Principle】

Ventilation fans operate using three primary methods: exhaust, suction, and combined types. Exhaust fans bring in fresh air through natural vents and expel dirty air via the fan. Suction fans draw in fresh air and release stale air through natural outlets. Combined-type fans handle both intake and exhaust through the same unit. These systems help maintain a balanced indoor climate and ensure continuous air circulation. The required ventilation rate depends on factors like room size, occupancy, and air quality standards. The number of air exchanges per hour is a key metric for determining the efficiency of a ventilation system.

【Structure of a Ventilation Fan】

The most common type of ventilation fan is the louvered model, which typically includes a motor, blades, wind frame, panel, shutters, and a special pull switch. The motor is usually a single-phase capacitor-run asynchronous motor, while smaller units may use shaded-pole motors. Blades are generally made from durable plastics like ABS or AS, offering a lightweight yet strong structure. The wind frame is often constructed using sheet steel through stamping and spot welding, though plastic injection molding is also used. Panels and shutters are typically made from stamped sheet metal or tinplate, ensuring durability and ease of maintenance.

【Specifications】

Ventilation fans come in various sizes based on the diameter of the fan blade, including 100mm, 150mm, 200mm, 250mm, 300mm, 350mm, 400mm, 450mm, and 500mm. Each size is designed to suit different installation needs and airflow requirements, making them adaptable for use in kitchens, bathrooms, and other areas requiring effective ventilation.
