Aluminum alloy door and window profile casting technology

Aluminum alloy door and window profiles are essential components in the manufacturing of aluminum doors and windows, forming the core structure of these products. The specifications, dimensions, precision, chemical composition, mechanical properties, and surface quality of these profiles significantly impact the overall performance, durability, and aesthetics of the final product. First, the size specifications of aluminum profiles play a crucial role. Typically, the height of the profile section is used as a reference to define the size series, such as 40mm, 45mm, 50mm, up to 100mm. While aluminum windows tend to have smaller size ranges, aluminum doors usually require larger dimensions. It's important to note that even with the same size designation, the cross-sectional shape and actual dimensions can vary greatly depending on the design and application. Profiles can be either solid or hollow, with hollow ones being more commonly used due to their strength-to-weight ratio. The minimum thickness for window profiles is typically 1.4mm, while door profiles require at least 2mm. Lengths can be fixed (up to 6 meters), double-width, or indefinite (as short as 1 meter). Second, the chemical composition of aluminum profiles mainly consists of aluminum-magnesium-silicon alloys. These include elements like silicon, magnesium, iron, and others, with specific percentages to enhance strength and corrosion resistance. Mechanical properties are also critical—tensile strength should be at least 157 N/mm², yield strength over 108 N/mm², elongation above 8%, and hardness no less than 58 HV. Third, the production process involves four main stages: ingot preparation, extrusion, heat treatment, and surface finishing. Ingot preparation includes melting, casting, and soaking to ensure uniform microstructure. Extrusion uses high-tonnage hydraulic presses, with temperatures carefully controlled to optimize material flow and die life. After extrusion, profiles undergo heat treatment to achieve desired mechanical properties, often in the T6 condition. Finally, surface treatments like anodizing are applied to improve appearance and durability. Anodized coatings must be at least 10 micrometers thick, and color options can be achieved through electrolytic or dip dyeing methods. This comprehensive process ensures that aluminum profiles meet strict quality and performance standards for modern architectural applications.
