Photodegradable PET bottle Become a waterproof paper

A group of young entrepreneurs from Mexico have developed a conversion system that can degrade PET mineral water bottles into waterproof paper. They claim that each ton of paper produced will save up to 20 trees and 56,000 litres of water. This photodegradable waterproof paper can be used to print books, cartons and general stationery.

Ever Adrian Nava, co-founder of Cronology, said: "Without cutting trees and using water, we reduce paper costs and help the planet." Cronology claims that this paper is 15% cheaper than traditional paper because it does not use chemicals. , such as chlorine, or water. Although Spain and Taiwan have already used similar processes to make mineral paper (also known as map paper or stone paper), Cronology says its conversion system costs four times less than traditional methods.

The original idea of developing this type of paper was to reduce production costs and reduce deforestation. Mexico currently produces 700,000 tons of paper each year, mainly for books, notebooks, wrapping paper and toilet paper. Cronology said that manufacturing 1 ton of traditional paper has a 100-year environmental impact, but this mineral paper eliminates environmental impacts, 235 kg (518 lbs) of waste recycled PET pellets, calcium carbonate and stone, can produce a ton of minerals paper.
