New technology for dynamic desulfurization of waste rubber

On June 27th, the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing brought together a panel of experts to evaluate the scientific and technological achievements of Jiangsu Qiangwei Rubber & Plastic Technology Co., Ltd.'s energy-saving and environmentally friendly waste rubber series cooling dynamic desulfurization technology. Following six months of operational testing, the appraisal committee confirmed that the technology demonstrates excellent performance and stability, particularly in terms of improved product quality, reduced material consumption, energy efficiency, and environmental protection. The technology is considered a first in China, with its core innovations reaching international advanced levels. This breakthrough technology was jointly developed by Jiangsu Qiangwei Group, Huainan Petrochemical Machinery Equipment Co., Ltd., Beijing University of Chemical Technology, and the China Tire Resources Recycling Research Center. After rigorous testing, the recycled rubber produced by this method not only meets but exceeds the requirements of the current national standard (GB/T13460-2008). Professor Cheng Yuan, Director of the Appraisal Committee and Technical Committee of the China Tire Renovation and Recycling Association, highlighted that the traditional recycling process in the domestic industry is often inefficient, energy-intensive, and polluting—posing a major challenge to sustainable development. In contrast, the new waste rubber cooling dynamic desulfurization technology introduces several key improvements. It uses tank cooling technology to lower the temperature and pressure of the desulfurized rubber, eliminating the discharge of waste gas or wastewater. This innovation addresses issues such as sticky materials, clogging, and difficulty in cleaning, reduces water usage by 80–90%, enhances production efficiency, and delivers significant energy savings and environmental benefits. Additionally, the 18-channel intelligent instrument + contactor control system extends the lifespan of the tank material and increases the maintenance interval for the entire equipment. It also improves the safety of the electric heating system, further reducing energy use and enhancing the stability of the recycled rubber products. It is well known that the critical step in the production of recycled rubber is desulfurization and reduction. Traditional methods often rely on coal tar, which, although cost-effective and high-performing, causes serious environmental pollution and odor problems. Solving these issues will help the reclaimed rubber industry remove the “pollution cap.” Professor Ji Kuijiang, a member of the appraisal committee and professor at Qingdao University of Science and Technology, emphasized that environmental pollution is the main obstacle facing the industry. Without addressing this issue, the sector cannot survive, let alone grow. The development of this new technology offers crucial technical support to overcome these environmental challenges and promote the sustainable growth of the recycled rubber industry.
