Since 1970 we have been using solar energy calculators. So why can't the same concept apply to tablets?

Ubiquitous Energy claims they can do it.

According to MIT Technology Ventures, the Cambridge, Mass.-based company is developing a coating that coats the screens of tablets and e-readers to convert sunlight into electricity.

The same organic matter can also transform building windows into photovoltaic power plants - other companies are also working on the development of this concept product.

Ubiquitous's thin film converts the invisible light in the spectrum—ultraviolet light and infrared light—to electricity. It can also convert visible light into electricity.

At present, the company is still in the research and development stage. Its products have not yet reached a high level of energy efficiency or transparency. According to reports, the company’s technology can only convert less than 2% of its light into electricity, and its transparency reaches 70%. Ubiquitous's goal is to achieve a 10% conversion rate.
