Abstract Introduction: "In advanced technology, we are still in the following stage." China's CNC machine tools still face a developmental gap in terms of speed and precision. When comparing products with similar specifications, foreign machine tools operate at approximately three times the speed of domestic models, while their accuracy is nearly an order of magnitude higher. The domestic CNC system lags significantly behind global leaders in high-speed processing, high-precision control, five-axis machining, and intelligent functions. Compared to a decade ago, China’s CNC machine tools have made considerable progress. Ten years ago, the country was unable to produce five-axis linkage machines, but now several domestic brands have emerged. This has forced Japanese manufacturers to lower their prices for similar products. Other heavy-duty machine tools have also reached international standards, and the development of five-axis CNC machines has become a symbol of China's technological advancement. In recent years, improvements in machine tool performance have enabled breakthroughs in certain manufacturing sectors. However, some critical high-end CNC equipment remains out of reach in terms of production technology, limiting China's capabilities in key industries such as large aircraft and semiconductor manufacturing. As a result, achieving full-scale industrial development still requires overcoming challenges in high-end CNC technology. "In advanced technology, we are still in the follow-up phase." China's CNC machine tools continue to lag behind in speed and precision. For products with the same specifications, foreign machine tools are about three times faster and offer significantly better accuracy. CNC machine tools represent one of the most complex industries in manufacturing. The technical bottlenecks in domestic machine tools cannot be attributed to a single factor. In general, CNC systems consist of both the digital control system and the machine itself. China faces gaps in both areas. On one hand, high-performance CNC systems play a crucial role in determining the overall performance and cost of the machine. At this year's Nanjing Exhibition, all high-end CNC machines displayed by Chinese manufacturers used foreign systems from companies like Siemens or Fanuc. Domestically developed CNC systems still lag far behind global standards in high-speed operation, precision, five-axis machining, and intelligent features. This is due to a comprehensive gap in system architecture, including hardware platforms, software platforms, and fieldbus communication, as well as high-speed and high-precision control algorithms and servo drives. On the other hand, functional components such as electric spindles, dual-rotary heads, turntables, and nano-precision gratings, along with the core technologies for designing and manufacturing the entire machine, remain major constraints for China's high-end machine tool industry. The overall improvement of CNC technology in China ultimately depends on the support of a strong functional components industry. The vast domestic market demand serves as a powerful driver for technological innovation. It is expected that by 2020, there will be a significant increase in the need for high-end CNC machine tools across various manufacturing sectors." (Word count: 514)
