Corn plants that have been lodged do not necessarily require support, as they possess strong self-regulating abilities. As the plants continue to grow, they will naturally straighten themselves up. However, for severe cases of lodging, when the ground is slightly dry after rain, manual intervention can be used to upright the plants. It is recommended to work in pairs: one person should gently lift the plant from the top, while the other cultivates the soil around the roots to provide better support. In cases where the stem is broken, it is crucial to remove the damaged plants from the field as soon as possible to prevent decay and the spread of disease to healthy plants. Timely fertilization is essential after lodging, as the corn’s photosynthesis and overall physiological functions may be impaired, which can negatively affect growth and development. If a field has only received one round of topdressing, an additional application is advisable. If the first topdressing did not include phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, these should be the main focus in the second application. If phosphorus and potassium were already applied, it's best to combine them with the next large growth stage, applying about 15–20 kg of urea to boost yield. Pest and disease control is also critical after lodging, as the weakened plants are more susceptible to infections. For leaf diseases, it is recommended to use fungicides such as thiophanate-methyl at a dilution of 800 times, or 500 times, or carbendazim at 50% concentration, or chlorothalonil at 75% concentration. Spraying should be done every 7 to 10 days, and may need to be repeated 2 to 3 times depending on the severity of the infection. Some farmers have questioned whether other crops could be planted instead of the lodged corn. This is not advisable, as giving up on the corn plants before confirming they are beyond recovery is premature and unwise. Instead, proactive measures should be taken to save the crop.
