Last morning, the Houjie Human Resources Market hosted its first job fair of the Spring Festival season and the inaugural furniture industry event. The fair attracted over 50 furniture companies, offering positions in sales, technical roles, and R&D. However, compared to general job fairs, this specialized event saw lower participation from both employers and job seekers. Huang Jing, director of the Houjie Human Resources Marketing Center, explained that the furniture industry typically hires skilled technicians rather than general laborers, and the number of available positions is relatively small. She noted that the demand for talent in the sector usually becomes more apparent after April. Salaries for technical roles generally range from 6,000 to 8,000 yuan per month, with some managerial positions offering over 10,000 yuan. This year’s salary increases are estimated to be between 200 to 300 yuan compared to previous years. Industry experts believe it's difficult to predict the exact size of the labor gap, and many companies have adopted a cautious approach when planning their recruitment strategies. Some businesses are waiting to see how orders will develop before making significant hiring decisions. Interestingly, many skilled workers in the furniture industry tend to delay their return to work until after the Lantern Festival. These professionals are often family pillars, and they prefer to take time to find stable jobs rather than rush back immediately after the holiday. As a result, companies have adjusted their start dates accordingly. At the fair, one family stood out—parents with their young daughter searching for jobs. Ms. Liu, the mother, has been working in Dongguan for over a decade. Her husband works in transportation, and she hopes to find a local job so her daughter can attend school nearby. She aims for her husband to earn around 4,000 yuan a month, allowing her to help at home and care for their child. The furniture industry also has its own seasonal patterns. Companies typically ship products at the end of the year and showcase samples at the beginning of the new year. Orders usually come in during April, which is when the demand for skilled workers tends to rise significantly. This year’s recruitment plans are more conservative, with fewer companies aiming to hire large numbers of employees. This shift is largely due to the uncertain economic climate, as many firms are waiting to assess order volumes before making major hiring commitments.
