National Energy Administration: Last year's electricity growth rate dropped to 11.7%

The National Energy Administration announced that in 2011, the total electricity consumption of the entire society reached 4692.8 GWh, an increase of 11.7% year-on-year. Compared with China's total electricity consumption of 4.19 trillion kWh and growth rate of 14.56% in 2010, the growth rate of electricity consumption in China's society was declining in 2011.

Electricity consumption has always been seen as a leading indicator of the economy. In this regard, Lin Boqiang (microblogging), director of the China Energy Economics Center at Xiamen University, said that from historical trends, the growth in electricity consumption and economic growth are basically a one to one relationship. The decline in electricity consumption growth is certainly related to the economy. The overall situation is very much related. The State Electricity Regulatory Commission experts predict that the demand for electricity will be loose in 2012, and the growth rate of electricity consumption will slow down to 8.5%.
