**Kohler Opens State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Facility in Casa Grande**
CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – May 15, 2024 – Kohler Co., a renowned global leader in kitchen and bath solutions based in Kohler, Wisconsin, has officially launched operations at its brand-new manufacturing facility in Casa Grande, Arizona. The grand opening was marked by a celebratory ribbon-cutting event presided over by company executives. Among the attendees were Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs, newly hired Kohler associates filling over 400 full-time roles, state and local officials, and valued Kohler customers.
This cutting-edge facility specializes in producing STERLING branded bath and shower products to meet rising consumer demand and elevate customer satisfaction. Spanning approximately one million square feet across 216 acres, the complex includes a modern manufacturing unit, ancillary warehouses, a distribution center, office spaces, and dining areas. The setup also features a top-tier showroom where clients and visitors can explore the latest innovations in bathroom fixtures.
Governor Katie Hobbs expressed her enthusiasm about the opening, stating, "Arizona continues to shine as a hub for excellence in manufacturing, innovation, and sustainability, and Kohler's arrival adds immense value to these strengths." She added, "As a globally recognized brand synonymous with sustainability and creativity, Kohler strengthens Arizona's rapidly expanding manufacturing sector."
Norbert Schmidt, President of Kitchen & Bath North America at Kohler, welcomed the new employees and emphasized the company's commitment to contributing positively to the Casa Grande community. "We're thrilled to join forces with the local workforce and provide stable job opportunities alongside career growth prospects," he noted. "This new plant ensures we can meet our ambitious growth targets for STERLING, ensuring superior service and product quality for our customers."
The facility incorporates advanced smart factory technologies designed to craft durable yet elegant bathtubs, shower enclosures, and wall systems. Sustainability remains a cornerstone of Kohler's strategy, with ongoing efforts to reduce greenhouse gases, water consumption, solid waste, and improve energy efficiency.
Earlier this year, Kohler was chosen by the U.S. Department of Energy to negotiate a potential $51.2 million grant aimed at implementing a commercial-scale decarbonization initiative at the Casa Grande site. The plan involves introducing an electric boiler system paired with a microgrid powered by a 21MW solar array. Additional measures include installing 68MWh of long-duration energy storage batteries and 12MW of HVO-capable backup generators. These enhancements are expected to slash annual CO2 emissions by 7,865 metric tons, representing a minimum 90% reduction in pressing process emissions.
Moreover, Kohler collaborated on a project led by Bonneville Environmental Foundation, Arizona State University, and Bridgestone to transition water-intensive crops to drought-resistant varieties, alleviating pressure on local groundwater resources.
Mayor Craig McFarland of Casa Grande celebrated the partnership, saying, "The City warmly embraces Kohler as part of our community and appreciates their long-term commitment here. As a global pioneer in kitchen and bath solutions, Kohler reinforces its dedication to sustainable practices and community engagement."
Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, highlighted the significance of Kohler's presence. "This facility not only underscores Arizona's appeal as a prime location for advanced manufacturing but also brings hundreds of skilled jobs to rural Arizona. We’re proud to have such an iconic brand invest in our state."
Chris Camacho, President & CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, remarked, "Kohler's decision to establish this large-scale operation in Casa Grande leverages Greater Phoenix's strategic advantages in reaching Western U.S. markets. We’re delighted to see such a prestigious brand integrate into our region."
