Natural Rubber (NR) Natural rubber offers solid corrosion resistance against weak acids, alkalis, salts, and chloride solutions but performs poorly with oils and solvents. Avoid using it in ozone-heavy environments. Its recommended operational temperature ranges from -57°C to 93°C. 2. Neoprene (CR) Neoprene, a synthetic rubber, provides reliable corrosion resistance to moderate acids, alkalis, and salt solutions. It holds up well against commercial oils and fuels but falters with strong oxidizing acids, aromatic hydrocarbons, and chlorinated hydrocarbons. Operate between -51°C and 121°C for optimal results. 3. Butyl Rubber (NBR) Butyl cyanide rubber, another synthetic rubber, demonstrates excellent corrosion resistance across a broad temperature spectrum for oils, solvents, aromatic hydrocarbons, alkaline hydrocarbons, petroleum, and natural gas. It handles hydroxides, salts, and near-neutral acids well but struggles with strong oxidizing agents, hydrocarbon chlorides, ketones, and lipids. The suggested temperature range is 51°C to 121°C. 4. Fluoroelastomer Fluoroelastomers, crafted by blending binary and ternary fluoropolymers with fillers and vulcanizing agents, boast superior heat resistance, chemical resistance, and physical/mechanical properties. They offer minimal compression set, great elasticity, and a lengthy service life. With outstanding heat and oil resistance up to 200–250°C, they're ideal for cylinder seals, rubber bowls, and rotating lip seals, enhancing durability significantly. Recommended operating temperatures span from -40°C to 232°C. 5. Chlorosulfonylated Polyethylene Synthetic Rubber This synthetic rubber exhibits commendable corrosion resistance to acids, alkalis, and salt solutions while maintaining stability against climate, light, ozone, and common fuels like diesel and kerosene. However, it's unsuitable for aromatic hydrocarbons, hydrocarbons, chromic acid, and nitric acid. Optimal working temperatures lie between -45°C and 135°C. 6. Silicone Rubber Silicone rubber stands out for its exceptional high and low-temperature resilience. It remains functional for extended periods at 150°C without losing performance; continuous operation at 200°C lasts up to 10,000 hours. Within the range of -70°C to 260°C, it retains elasticity, ozone resistance, and weathering properties. Ideal for thermal mechanisms, including sealing linings, valve gaskets, and water-based oil seals. Specialty versions cater to oil seal applications. 7. Ethylene-Propylene Rubber This material excels in resisting strong acids, alkalis, salts, and chloride solutions but isn't suited for oils, solvents, aromatic hydrocarbons, or hydrocarbons. Operating temperatures should fall between -57°C and 176°C. 8. Graphite Graphite, free of resins or inorganic components, can be metal-infused or metal-element based. Bondable, it allows production of gaskets larger than 600mm in diameter. It boasts superb corrosion resistance across numerous acids, bases, salts, organic compounds, and heat transfer fluids—even under extreme temperatures. While it doesn’t melt, it sublimates beyond 3316°C. Use cautiously in strongly oxidizing mediums. Besides gaskets, it serves as filler material and non-metallic winding tape in gaskets. 9. Ceramic Fibers Ceramic fibers, formed into strips, create top-tier gasket materials ideal for high-temperature, low-pressure settings and lightweight flanges. Recommended operating temperature reaches 1093°C, enabling creation of non-metallic winding tapes for wound gaskets. 10. PTFE PTFE consolidates most plastic spacer advantages, withstanding temperatures from -95°C to 232°C. Beyond free fluorine and alkali metals, it demonstrates excellent chemical, solvent, hydroxide, and acid resistance. Glass-filled PTFE aims to reduce cold flow and creep characteristics. These diverse materials cater to varied industrial needs, ensuring effective sealing solutions across different environments and conditions.
