This marks a continued downward trend in the sector, with copper production falling by 0.5% and flat copper output dropping by 2.6% over the same period.
However, not all segments of the copper industry experienced declines. The production of copper foil rose sharply by 8.2%, while copper rods and bars saw a more modest increase of 2.5%. These figures suggest that certain specialized copper products are still in demand, possibly due to industrial or technological needs.
Looking back at earlier data, from January to October 2012, refined copper output had already dropped by 6.5% compared to the previous year. Copper wire production fell by 3.2%, and flat copper production decreased by 3.5%. Yet, during the same time frame, copper foil output increased by 5.9%, indicating a growing trend in this particular area.
In addition, export data from January to September 2012 showed a significant rise in the export of raw copper and copper rods, with shipments reaching 459,000 tons—an increase of 24.4% year-on-year. This growth in exports contributed to a 4.3% rise in export revenue, reaching $3.492 billion. These numbers highlight the importance of international trade for Russia's copper industry, despite the challenges faced domestically.
