On December 1, the Science and Technology Promotion and Development Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences organized relevant experts to carry out the final acceptance of the key deployment project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, undertaken by the Institute of Urban Environment, “Settling Technologies and Demonstration of Municipal Sludge Preparation for Biochar”. The acceptance meeting was chaired by Zhao Qianyu, deputy director of the Science and Technology Promotion and Development Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. At the meeting, Chen Shaohua, deputy director of the Urban Environment Institute, first gave a welcome speech; subsequently, Wang Yin, the responsible person in charge of technology, represented the project team to report on the study. The participating experts fully affirmed the work of the “Environmental Sampling Technology and Demonstration for Municipal Sludge Preparation Bio-Carbon Technology” project team and believed that the project will proceed from the aspects of sludge hydrothermal dehydration, pyrolysis carbonization, application of biochar products, and life cycle assessment. The whole process system research, research and development of municipal sludge preparation bio-carbon complete sets of patented technology, has been built in Tongan Wastewater Treatment Plant demonstration project and landed in Tianjin sludge disposal project. After deliberation, the participating experts believed that the project team had exceeded the R&D tasks and goals and agreed that the project passed acceptance. At the same time, it proposed to further fund the research direction and accelerate the application of technology research and development and market promotion.

Finally, Zhao Qianyu did a project acceptance review and pointed out that the research objectives of the project are clear and the research progressed smoothly. The patented technology of pyrolysis and carbonization of the sludge hydrothermal dehydration coupling sludge was fully in line with the "circular economy, industrial synergy, and energy saving "Sewage, safety, environmental protection, and high-efficiency, resource-efficient" sludge harmless disposal targets; thanked the participating experts for their valuable suggestions, and hoped that the project team will continue to promote the application of new technologies to the ground in order to solve the environmental problems in the process of urbanization in China in accordance with expert advice.
