To foster more reputable brands within the Beijing furniture industry and build consumer confidence, the Beijing Furniture Industry Association has recently introduced a pilot credit evaluation system. This initiative, supervised by eight government units including the Beijing Economic and Information Commission, aims to establish a robust review mechanism for furniture companies. It includes a one-vote veto policy for unethical businesses—any company with a bad credit record will be placed on a blacklist after verification.
The association has also launched an enterprise credit reporting platform, open to thousands of furniture companies across the city. Through strict reviews and public oversight, each company will have an integrity file. According to officials, this platform was developed in collaboration with Credit Beijing Network, and all Beijing-based furniture companies, regardless of size, are eligible to join.
For participating companies, the platform offers clear incentives and consequences. Those who maintain good credit can gain more support and recognition. However, any integrity issues will be visible to everyone, leading to market rejection. As soon as a company joins the platform, its integrity record begins to build.
China’s furniture industry started later than others, and the market remains somewhat unregulated. Establishing a credit reporting system is a positive step toward cultivating more honest and responsible companies. Industry experts believe that while there are many ways to evaluate a company’s quality—such as production capacity and after-sales service—the credit platform plays a crucial role in assessing integrity. As trust becomes increasingly important in the market, corporate credibility will face greater scrutiny, serving as an effective check on business practices.
Yu Xiusu, vice chairman and secretary general of the Beijing Furniture Industry Association, stated that once the credit information platform is fully operational, it will help purify the local furniture industry. By setting new review and supervision standards, consumers will be able to access a company’s integrity records at any time, making informed purchasing decisions. While only over 120 companies have joined so far, most of them are influential, accounting for about 80% of the market. This sets a strong example for other companies. She believes that as the platform expands this year, more Beijing furniture companies will join, significantly improving the industry's overall integrity.
