Equipment manufacturing industry as a pillar industry "sportsman" to catch

Through field visits and detailed analysis, the committee discovered that the equipment manufacturing industry in our area has a solid foundation and is growing rapidly. In 2012, the total output value of the industry reached 10.673 billion yuan, accounting for 17.3% of the region's total output. The industry also contributed 282.54 million yuan in tax revenue, which represented 24.3% of the region’s industrial tax income. There were nearly 20,000 employees working in the sector, with 56 large-scale enterprises achieving an output value of 9.427 billion yuan—a 30.1% increase compared to the previous year.

However, despite these achievements, the existing clusters of equipment manufacturing in our district are still in their early stages. The industrial structure is fragmented, with scattered enterprises and limited supporting industries. Most companies are small, and there are few leading firms or integrated system manufacturers. As a result, the industry lacks strong vertical integration, leading to high production costs and inefficiencies. Over 60% of raw materials and spare parts used by local mechanical equipment companies are sourced from outside the district, highlighting the need for stronger regional supply chains.

In response, the District Political Consultative Conference recommended positioning the equipment manufacturing industry as the core driver of the "sportsmanship" in the development of Yongchuan's key industries. They emphasized the importance of innovation, improved mechanisms, and better policy environments to accelerate the formation of a major equipment manufacturing base within the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone.

It is encouraging to see that the Fourth Plenary Session of the 13th Regional Committee of the District Committee has officially recognized the machinery and equipment manufacturing industry as the leading force among the “4+1” key industries in Yongchuan, signaling a strategic shift towards long-term sustainable development.
