Progress in Nanocatalytic Research of Fujian Institute of Materials Science and Technology

The synthesis of biaryl compounds by activating the arylation reaction via the CH bond has always been the frontier and focus of research in the fields of green chemistry and drug synthesis. Although traditional homogeneous catalysts have achieved great success in this area, the amount of catalyst is large, it is difficult to recycle and the products are difficult to separate, and the catalytic process generally requires a relatively harsh anhydrous environment, increasing the cost of large-scale synthesis and causing Certain environmental pollution.

Under the support of the "973" Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Cao Rong group of the State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry of the Institute of Physical Structure of the Chinese Academy of Sciences synthesizes polyfluorinated aromatic compounds by direct CH-activated arylation. The research made new progress.

The research team used the melon ring as a carrier and used a simple one-pot method to directly synthesize Pd nanoparticle composites with a particle size of less than 5 nanometers. This material exhibits high activity in this type of reaction, with a small amount of catalyst. The reaction conditions are mild, do not need to remove water and oxygen, can be carried out in the air, and have a wide range of functional group tolerance and good recycling performance, demonstrating excellent catalytic efficiency and selectivity.

The team also studied the structure-activity relationship between the Pd nanocomposites and the catalytic properties formed by different guarana rings, and verified the mechanism of heterogeneous catalysis through experiments. It is worth noting that this is the first time that the use of nanoparticles successfully catalyzed direct CH bond activation synthesis of polyfluorinated aromatic compounds, has a good application prospects, related research results published in J. Catal., 2015, 321, 62-69 .
